Avoid the pitfalls of parenting - By 1039870

Name: Martina Rosini.

Business: Vancouver Baby Planners, Vancouver. Contact: www.vancouverbabyplanners.com;604-560-4027.

Number of employees: One.

Time in business: Almost two years.

What is your business?

I'm like a wedding planner. I help parents to get ready for their baby. I shop for the essential baby gear, research product recalls and recommend the best products to fit their lifestyle. I also plan their nursery and baby registry, test baby products and get mom in the best shape that she can be, before and after the baby.

How did you get started?

There were so many choices when it came to baby products, and I spent way too much money on stuff I never used. After talking to other new moms, I realized there was a need for a baby concierge -- someone who will guide expecting parents along the journey to parenthood.

What is unique about your business?

I am the first baby-concierge serving the Lower Mainland; it's still a new and evolving market in North America. And I only shop for baby products, so you don't get stuck with products you don't need.

What is your biggest challenge?

Recommending products that later get recalled. The Stork Craft crib recall is an example.

What do you like best about your business?

I love babies and baby products, testing new gear on my own family and friends. And I like to think that I'm helping new parents through a very exciting period in their lives.

What lies ahead?

I would like to grow my business and hire more employees, travel to different cities across B.C. and meet more of my customers face-to-face.
